Susan Houchin is a native of Nebraska. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University She is a full-time book artist and calligrapher. While she enjoys working with fiber and wood, her preferred medium is paper, particularly in creating one-of-a-kind boxes, books and journals.
Susan has taken book arts classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina.
In Indiana, she has studied book-binding with Bonnie Stahlecker. Most recently, she attended the Paper and Book Intensive in Michigan. She has studied calligraphy with Yukimi Annand, Annie Cicale, Carrie Imai and Barbara Close.
Susan’s work has been sold in galleries and shops in Nebraska, Ohio and Indiana. This year her work was included in a juried exhibition at the Ohio Craft Museum, and she recently won a “Best of Show” prize at the Ohio State Fair for an artist book.
Susan currently resides in Columbus, Ohio.
