Carla Fontecchio was born in 1985 in Erie, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA in drawing from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2009, and worked as an intern at the Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory from 2009-2010. She currently lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. Fontecchio’s drawings are careful depictions of plant and insect specimens from a collection that has amassed since childhood. She is invested in transcribing the temperament of these subjects, encouraging the viewer to perceive them as sentient. Studies are completed using ink, graphite, gouache and collage on Morgan Paper.
