Achala Wali lives and works in Northeast Ohio. Her work has been included in exhibitions in venues as varied as Zygote Press and the Butler Museum in Youngstown, OH. Born in India, raised in the United States, Achala's artistic practice reflects a wide range of cultural influences, global and local, from Indian miniatures to global music, garden design, as well as her environs - the landscapes on Northeast Ohio. Achala works from her studio, located in the Templar Building in Lakewood, OH, and is one of the Screw Factory Artists that collaborate to hold open studio events for the public.
Achala has been involved with several drawing collectives, the first dating from 1995, Drawing in the Community, led by Ed Mieczkowski, a former faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Art and later NewCelle with Ed Mieczkowski, Bea Mitchell, and John Jackson. Achala, currently employed at the Cleveland Museum of Art, is active in the community - including as board member of the Association of Asian Indian Women of Northeast Ohio (AAIWO), an advisor to the City of Lakewood's Public Art program, and a past board member of SPACES gallery and Zygote Press.
